George Roth custom rod... |
|
|
I just have to post this about my new rod
George Roth made me. I have been a long time Loomis user and have
had a couple custom GL-3's but mainly use the stock rods. I had
George build me a SR781-1 rod with
Titanium/SIC guides and his split grip style handle in 16 mm with a hook
keeper also. I have been trying to get a rod and reel combination of 1/2
pound or so total weight... Well, the rod weighed in at a total of 55
grams or 1.94 oz. I will put my Luvias 1003 on it and have my perfect
setup. Like I said earlier, I have had custom rods before but none of
the craftsmanship and detail that George
put into it. Yes it did cost more than a stock off the shelf IMX SR781,
but when you feel them side by side there's no question that the GR rod
is by far superior. I just had to pass on how pleased I am and thought
if someone were on the edge of going custom, at least give
George a shot.... |

Could somebody post
George's website or give a contact number? I was saving up for a
really good rod, why not go all the way and get a customized rod on a G
loomis blank. |

Guys...
I have to admit that it is a pleasure and a bit humbling to come on to
this site and read your comments. I was so impressed with Phil's rod, I
had to depart from only bass rods to build one for myself. We have some
pretty good crappie fishing and now I'll be able to enjoy it even more
with the set up that Phil recommended. BTW...Phil is one heck of a guy,
himself!
Thanks again for all the positive comments...it means a great deal.
Best regards........George

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend. I'm
flying to St. Louis in a couple weeks for a business meeting, then
fishing the CA Delta in March. I'd love to make it to one of those
seminars. I know there is a ton I could learn and benefit from. I'm
going to make the rod builders weekend in Woodland, WA, at Lamiglas. I
believe that is in April. I need to get a firm date from Todd.
Thanks.....George |

Delta in March eh George? Man, that's a
terrible time to be out there, didn't anyone tell you?

George, you might want to ping John Posey
or someone else in Lamiglas for firm dates. Todd left Lamiglas. Last
week was his last at the company. If you need the contact info, PM me.

Could TT interview some of the
most popular custom rod builders? I think many of us are interested in
knowing their different approaches to rod building.

Skeeterboy77...
We are flying in late in the evening of the 21st. We will be staying at
the Hilton, near the airport. We will be attending a Leadership Seminar
at the Edwards Jones facility. Should be a great meeting. We will be
flying out on Sunday morning. If there is time, I'd love to meet up.
Here is my cell number: (208) 484-7164.
Cal...
I know, fishing the Delta in the spring is no good. Can't figure out why
the FLW Series is going back to the Dead Sea, for their first
tournament! lol. I didn't catch any BIG fish last year (got to net my
Pro's 10#), but I did have a blast learning about swimbaits. I've got
some new tricks up my sleeve for this year. As a Co-Angler, what I get
to do really depends on the Pro. At least I know what to focus on.
As for Todd...I knew he was moving on. He is going to be at the
rodbuilding weekend, though. I'll have to get to know John.
Best regards........George

Tod told me that he would still
be doing some consulting work for Lamiglas so he will most likely know
what is going on.
He is working with Mudhole now, you can reach him at this

Here's a couple of pics of the
George Roth rod, I'm so happy with.
I keep picking it up and not believing how light the combo is and
wishing the snow and ice would get the heck outta here. Sorry the pics
don't reflect the best views, I've found it really hard to get good
photo's of fishing rods..
Tight lines and squealing drags

The only thing better than
George's fishing rods is
George himself. Super nice guy. I finally
had the privledge of meeting George last
January. Felt like I have known George
forever! He taught me alot about what I know in rod building..

Mike...
It was great to meet you, too. I also felt like I'd known you forever.
When speaking to Gary Dobyns last year while fishing the FLW Series
tournament on the Columbia river, he said that he wished that all of his
pro-staff was like you. Enough said.
Best regards and looking forward to putting that Triple Fish line to
work on the CA Delta in March.
Take care........George
